Chalk & Mud... ...or how we became accidental race organisers!

One for Rich

The idea for Roly's Run, our first event, was conceived in a pub, a few months after our friend Rich had passed away. A way to salute our pal, and to raise a few quid for charity, it was initially meant as a one-off. The first event saw some of his old colleagues, friends and familycome together with just about anybody else we could persuade!

Some of the gear, no idea!

Despite having participated in dozens of trail-ultras, organising was quite a different thing altogether. We learnt a tremendous amount that first year, and, 7 years on, we are still learning. Since then we have been fortunate to build a community of volunteers and many repeat entrants to the event.

Looking ahead

One of these foolhardy fellows was Rich.

Rich was an awesome individual, a much loved friend, who passed away unexpectedly in May 2018. We often spoke about organising a run on the trails that we stumbled about on late at night.

'Roly's Run' is our attempt to do this finally, as well as a way to give a nod to our dear friend. In 2019, we donated surplus funds from the event to three charities close to Rich and Rich's family.

Though we will spare you the night-running and the burpees, the course is a challenging one, with plenty of climbs and some tricky terrain in places. Whether you are new to this sort of thing or a seasoned ultra-runner, we hope that you'll have a great day out.

See you on the trail!
